For someone who works for Canadian Gardening magazine, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not particularly well versed in horticulture. But, as it turns out, ignorance really can be bliss. This morning, when I walked over to my mini herb garden (read: one half-dead parsley plant and one fairly lively basil plant) for its daily watering, I was jolted out of my sleepy state by a glorious site. Flowers! My basil plant had sprouted delicate little white blooms.
I purchased the plants from the grocery store on a whim one day, having gotten sick of throwing out bunches and bunches of fresh-cut herbs because the bundles were always larger than what I needed. For $3 a pop, I was willing to give them a try. And I’m so glad I did! In addition to offering up the freshest ingredients on demand, this basil plant has beautified my space. Now, if I can figure out how to revive the parsley one…
